Margot Honecker was a powerful leader in East Germany.

She was the Minister of National Education. This means she was in charge of all schools. She married Erich Honecker, who was the leader of the country.

In 1965, she made a new system for all schools. She also added military training for older students. Some people say her rules were very harsh. They say she helped take children away from their families. She also set up special schools for young people who broke rules. One of these places was in a town called Torgau.

In 1989, the government in East Germany changed. Margot lost her job. She and her husband fled to Moscow. They stayed in a small room at an embassy. Later, she moved to Chile to live with her daughter.
