At that time, RT had about 300 journalists. Simonyan said she wanted the station to show the Russian view of the world. She wanted it to be like the BBC or CNN. In 2022 and 2023, the European Union sanctioned her for her role in government propaganda. The United Kingdom and Ukraine also applied sanctions related to the invasion of Ukraine. In 2024, the United States sanctioned her for alleged interference in elections. These measures include freezing her assets and banning her from entering certain countries. She was also denied entry to Ukraine in 2016.

Simonyan's influence extends into the world of film and culture as well. In 2018, she wrote the script for a film titled "The Crimean Bridge. Made with Love!".

The film was directed by her husband, Tigran Keosayan. The movie received very poor reviews from critics. Furthermore, politician Alexei Navalny alleged that state funds for the film were diverted to her relatives. Despite these controversies, Simonyan remains a central figure in Russian media. Her work connects the Russian government's messaging to a global audience through various digital and broadcast platforms.
