Engineers look at how to turn raw materials into new products. They want to do this in the best way. This means making items fast and at a low cost.

Long ago, the Venice Arsenal made ships on assembly lines.

These ships used parts made in a factory. Later, Henry Ford changed how we make cars. He used mass production. This is a way to make many of the same things quickly.

Today, engineers use robots to help.

Robots are machines that follow a set of rules. They can do jobs that are dangerous for people. They can also do tasks that are very repetitive. Some factories use automation. This means machines do much of the work. This helps make goods with high quality.

To become an engineer, people must study hard. They learn math and physics. They also learn about mechatronics, which is a mix of machines and electronics.
