These experts work in many places. You can find them in car factories. They also work in hospitals and schools. They even help with things like space travel.

Many people helped start this field. Frederick Taylor is called the father of industrial engineering. He used a stopwatch to study how much time work took. He wanted to find the best way to do tasks. Frank and Lillian Gilbreth also helped. They studied how people move their bodies while they work. They called these small moves "therbligs."

Another famous name is Henry Ford. He used a moving assembly line to build cars. This made building a car much faster. It used to take 12 hours. After his change, it took only about one hour and 33 minutes. Today, engineers still use many smart ideas to keep the world moving smoothly.
