Manhwa are comics from Korea.

Artists who make them are called manhwa artists. You can read them in books or on a phone. Webtoons are a digital form of manhwa. The word webtoon comes from the Korean words for "web" and "cartoon."

Webtoons use vertical scrolling. This helps show movement or time passing. Many webtoons are in color. Printed manhwa are often in black and white. The art has a special look. Character bodies often look real. However, their faces look like drawings. The clothing and backgrounds are very detailed.

Manhwa has a long history. In the 1950s, new styles grew. One style is sunjeong, which is romance for young women. Another is myeongnyang, or happy comics. People even visited manhwabang. These were special comic cafes. Today, manhwa is popular all over the world. Some stories become movies or TV shows. For example, the story "Full House" became a drama. Many people now read these stories on their phones.
