Ambon is the largest city in Maluku. It sits on a small island called Ambon Island. Many people live here. In 2020, about 1.5 million people lived in the province. This number grew to nearly 2 million by 2025.

Long ago, Maluku was famous for spices. People grew cloves and nutmeg on the green islands. Four powerful groups of kings once ruled the area. They were called the "Four Mountains of Maluku." These kingdoms worked together to trade spices with the world.

Later, people from Europe came to the islands. The Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch, and British all wanted the spices. This led to many years of change and struggle. Some local leaders fought hard to keep their land free. Today, Maluku is a unique place with a deep history.
