He served as the 22nd prime minister from 1975 to 1983. This was a long time in office. He was the fourth longest-serving prime minister in the history of the country. Before he led the whole nation, he worked as a farmer. He grew up on sheep stations in Victoria.

His family had a long history of being involved in politics and running large lands.

Fraser's journey into politics started when he was very young. He first tried to run for parliament in 1954. He lost that first race by only 17 votes.

He did not give up on his goals. In 1955, he won a seat in the House of Representatives. He represented a place called Wannon. At only 25 years old, he was one of the youngest people ever elected to parliament. He used radio shows to talk to the people in his area.

As time went on, Fraser took on many different jobs in the government. He served as the Minister for the Army under Harold Holt.

Later, he was the Minister for Education and Science. He also served as the Minister for Defence from 1969 to 1971. During this time, he traveled to places like Washington, D.C. and Jakarta. He wanted to learn more about how other countries worked. These roles helped him prepare to lead the Liberal Party.

Becoming prime minister was part of a very big and difficult event.

In 1975, there was a major disagreement in the Australian government. This was known as the 1975 constitutional crisis. Because of this crisis, the prime minister, Gough Whitlam, was dismissed from his job. This was a very rare thing to happen in Australia. Following this, Malcolm Fraser was sworn in as the new prime minister. He led his party to big wins in the elections of 1975, 1977, and 1980.

Fraser's time as leader changed how Australia looked at the world.

He was a strong supporter of multiculturalism. This means he believed many different cultures could live together well. His government helped many people move to Australia, including Vietnamese boat people. This helped end the old White Australia policy. He also worked with the United Nations later in his life.
