Imagine a long strip of paper.

Give it one half-twist. Now tape the ends together. You have made a Möbius strip. This shape is very special. Most loops have two sides. A normal ring has an inside and an outside. But a Möbius strip has only one side. If you trace a line, it covers everything.

This shape also flips things. If a shape slides around the loop, it returns mirrored. A clockwise arrow would look counterclockwise.

Two math experts named Listing and Möbius found this in 1858. But people saw it much earlier. It appeared in Roman art long ago.

We use this shape in many ways today. Machines use these loops for belts. The belts wear evenly on both sides. This helps them last longer. You can also see it in the recycling symbol. Some buildings use this idea too. The NASCAR Hall of Fame was inspired by it.
