Lottie did many different jobs to make a film happen. She did not just act in front of the camera. She also wrote stories and helped with art direction. Sometimes she even worked as an editor or a producer. In 1921, she took on even more responsibility. She wrote, edited, and co-directed a movie called The Blue Mountains Mystery. This showed how much she knew about every part of filmmaking.

Lottie began her journey on the live theater stage. She was born in Balmain, a suburb of Sydney, in 1890. At age 20, she had a big breakthrough in a play. She traveled to 85 different towns on a theater tour. This tour took her across Australia and even to New Zealand. A flood in Murtoa, Victoria, eventually ended that specific tour.
