She was a pioneer of silhouette animation. This is a special way to make movies using black paper cutouts. Her work was very different from other artists. Most animators used faces to show feelings. Reiniger's characters used big gestures instead.

This made her films feel very fluid and graceful. People love her work because it tells stories through movement. She made more than 40 films during her long career.

Making these films was a very careful process. Reiniger used a technique called scherenschnitte. This is a German art of paper cutting. She was inspired by ancient Chinese paper art. To create depth, she invented a new tool. It was an early version of a multiplane camera.

She placed glass planes with lights behind them. This allowed her to layer the images. This helped her create beautiful, dream-like backgrounds. It was a very important step for animation history.

Lotte grew up in Berlin, Germany. She was born on June 2, 1899. As a child, she loved making her own puppet theater. She performed shows for her friends and family. Later, she worked with a director named Paul Wegener.

She started by making costumes and props backstage. She even made silhouette portraits of her classmates. This caught the attention of famous directors. Her talent helped her move into the world of film.

Reiniger achieved great success with her many projects. Her most famous film is The Adventures of Prince Achmed. It was completed in 1926. It is the oldest surviving feature-length animated film.

This was many years before Disney's Snow White. She also directed a film called Aschenputtel in 1922. This was a version of the Cinderella story. In 1928, she made Doctor Dolittle and his Animals. She also worked on many short films for the BBC.
