Lilith is a figure from very old stories.

She appears in Jewish folklore and Mesopotamian myths. Many stories say she was a demon of the night.

In some Jewish legends, Lilith was the first wife of Adam. These stories say she was made from the same clay. She left the Garden of Eden because she wanted to be equal.

Some old writings say she would not return to the garden.

Scholars study her name to find its meaning. Some think it comes from a word for a night bird. Others link her to ancient spirits from Mesopotamia. These spirits were often called "lilù."

In the past, some people were afraid of her. They used special charms to stay safe. These charms were often called amulets. One amulet was made to protect mothers and children.
