Both men went to court. A lawyer named Clarence Darrow spoke for them.

To do this, they planned a kidnapping and a murder. 

After the crime, the men tried to hide what they did. They sent a ransom note to the Franks family. 
Both men were caught and had to go to court. 
Life in prison was very different for the two men. 

The case of Nathan Leopold Jr. and Richard Loeb remains one of the most famous criminal events in American history. 
Leopold and Loeb had very different personalities despite their shared intellect. 
To carry out their plan, the pair spent seven months preparing for a murder. They decided to kidnap and kill 14-year-old Bobby Franks. 
After the kidnapping, the crime became a violent reality. 

Despite their careful planning, the police found critical evidence. Investigators discovered a pair of eyeglasses near the body. These glasses had a very specific, unusual hinge. Only three people in Chicago had purchased that exact hinge. One of those customers was Nathan Leopold. The police also recovered the stolen typewriter from the Jackson Park Lagoon. 
The legal battle that followed was a massive public event. 
Life after the trial was difficult for both men.
