A lenticular galaxy is a special type of star group. It sits between two other kinds. It is like a spiral galaxy and an elliptical galaxy.

Lenticular galaxies have a large, flat disk. They also have a big, round middle called a bulge. Most spiral galaxies have long arms. Lenticular galaxies do not have these arms.

These galaxies are mostly made of old stars. Because the stars are old, they look redder. Most of the gas is gone. Without much gas, they cannot make many new stars. However, they can still hold onto some dust.

Some lenticular galaxies have a central bar. This bar is a long shape in the middle. The bar can stretch through the bulge and the disk.

Scientists study these galaxies to learn how they change over time. They use math to measure how the stars move. This helps them see how the disk and bulge work together.
