These ideas were created by Vladimir Lenin. He was a leader in Russia. Lenin wanted to help the working class. This group includes people who work in factories and on farms. He believed these workers should take control of the government. This change would lead to a system called communism. His ideas changed how people thought about power and money.

Lenin believed a special group was needed to lead. He called this a vanguard party. This group would provide education and organization to the workers. They would act as leaders during a revolution. This group was known as the Bolsheviks. They wanted to remove the existing system of capitalism. The party would help workers understand their political role. This was different from just asking for better pay.

Lenin built his ideas on older theories. In 1848, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels wrote a famous book. It was called *The Communist Manifesto*. Marx and Engels believed workers would eventually revolt. Lenin used their ideas to fit the needs of Russia. He studied how the Russian Empire worked in the early 1900s. He saw that Russia was mostly a farming country. This helped him plan how a revolution might happen there.

After the October Revolution in 1917, Lenin's ideas became very important. The new government used councils called soviets. These were elected by workers and peasants. However, a difficult Russian Civil War began in 1917. This war lasted until 1922. During this time, the Bolsheviks banned other political parties. This made the Leninist party the only one in power. The country eventually became the core of the USSR.

Lenin also wrote about how countries interact. In 1916, he wrote a book called *Imperialism*.

He argued that rich countries used colonies for resources. This system made it hard for workers to revolt in wealthy lands. He thought the first revolution would happen in a weaker country. This is why he focused on Russia. His work helped shape the modern world of politics.

Leninism is a political ideology developed by Vladimir Lenin. He was a Russian Marxist revolutionary. This ideology proposes a specific way to reach communism. It suggests establishing a dictatorship of the proletariat first. This is a period where the working class holds power. This power is managed by a revolutionary vanguard party. This party acts as a guide for the people.

The core mechanism of Leninism involves the vanguard party. Lenin believed the working classes needed political consciousness. This means they need education and organization. The vanguard party provides this leadership to help workers depose capitalism. Lenin distinguished between two types of political campaigns. The first is an economic campaign. This involves strikes for better wages or work conditions. The second is a political campaign. This requires the decisive leadership of the Bolshevik party to change society.

Leninism uses a specific organizational structure called democratic centralism. This system was based on the First International. Within the party, members are allowed free political speech. This continues until the party reaches a policy consensus. Once a decision is made, every member must abide by it. This ensures the party acts with unity. Even though Lenin banned factions in 1921, debate remained part of Bolshevik practice. Lenin himself often debated to have his views accepted.

This ideology was a practical application of Marxist theory. In 1848, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels wrote *The Communist Manifesto*. They believed workers in industrial countries would lead a revolution. However, Lenin adapted these ideas for Imperial Russia. Russia was a largely agrarian society in the early 20th century. It had uneven economic development and rapid industrialization. Because of this, Lenin believed the urban working class could lead a revolution. They could effect land reform and democratize the country.

Lenin also developed theories regarding imperialism. In his 1916 book, *Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism*, he analyzed global finance. He argued that industrialized countries export financial capital to colonies. This allows them to exploit native labor and natural resources. This system creates a "labor aristocracy" in wealthy nations. These workers have a higher standard of living, which prevents revolution. Therefore, Lenin predicted the first revolution would occur in an underdeveloped country. He saw Imperial Russia as the weakest link in this global system.

After the October Revolution in 1917, Leninism became the dominant version of Marxism in Russia. The government used soviets, which were directly elected councils of workers. This was the practical version of the dictatorship of the proletariat. During the Russian Civil War from 1917 to 1922, the Bolsheviks faced many challenges. They fought against the White Armies and various uprisings. Due to this conflict, the Bolshevik government suppressed political opposition. This included the anarchists and the Mensheviks.

To manage the economy, the Bolsheviks implemented several different policies. They first nationalized industry and created a foreign-trade monopoly. During the Civil War, they used a system called war communism from 1918 to 1921. This was intended to ensure supplies of food and weapons. Later, from 1921 to 1928, they used the New Economic Policy. These steps helped transform the Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic. This republic eventually became the core of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

Leninism is more than just a philosophy; it is a form of revolutionary praxis. The term "Leninism" entered common usage at the fifth congress of the Communist International in 1924. Grigory Zinoviev used the term to describe vanguard-party revolution. It became part of the official doctrine of the Communist Party around 1922. This ideology changed how political scientists view the relationship between the state and the working class. It remains a significant subject in the study of political history and global economic systems.
