A laser is a special kind of light.

It makes a very straight beam. This beam stays thin even over long distances.

Inside, light works in a chain reaction. One tiny bit of light passes a particle. This makes the particle release a new bit of light. This new bit is just like the first one.

This happens over and over. It creates a strong beam of light.

We use lasers for many things. They can read discs or print pages. Some lasers even help doctors in surgery.

Lasers are one of the best inventions. They help us see and do great work.
