Language game (philosophy)

philosophy religion Maturity 13-18 Next article →

A thinker named Ludwig Wittgenstein had an idea. He called it a language game.

He said words work like games. Words have rules to follow. The meaning of a word changes with what we do. For example, the word "water" can be an order. It can also be an answer to a question.

One word can mean many things. This happens because we use words in different ways. It is like how many games are all different. We use language to do many things in life. It is part of how we live.
