The labour movement is when workers join together. They do this to help their shared interests. They want better pay and safer jobs. They also want fair treatment from bosses.

This movement began during the Industrial Revolution. This was a time of big changes. Many people moved to factory towns. Life became hard as wages fell. Before this, groups called guilds helped workers. But the guild system began to fail.

In the 1700s, workers formed trade unions. These groups were often small. They would strike to ask for more money. Some workers even broke machines to protest. In 1792, a group called the London Corresponding Society formed. It focused on the rights of workers.

The government sometimes tried to stop them. They passed laws to make unions illegal. But workers did not give up. They kept working together to make life better. Over time, they won more rights. They helped create laws for health care and schools.
