Léon Foucault was a scientist from France.

He liked to learn how the world works.

He used a heavy swinging weight to show a big fact. This weight showed that the Earth spins around.

Many people came to see it.

He also studied light. He found that light moves slower in water than in air. This was a new discovery.

He helped make tools for looking at stars. He also found a way to look at the sun safely. This keeps your eyes from getting hurt.

He even helped name a tool called a gyroscope. He was a very busy man.
