Kurt Warner is a former professional American football quarterback. He played in the National Football League (NFL) for 12 seasons. His career is often called a "Cinderella story." This refers to his rise from an unknown player to a superstar. He played mostly for the St. Louis Rams and the Arizona Cardinals.

Warner is considered one of the greatest undrafted players in NFL history. He is the only undrafted player to win both the NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP) award and the Super Bowl MVP award. He also holds the distinction of being the only undrafted quarterback to lead a team to a Super Bowl victory.

Warner's path to professional success began with significant struggle. After playing for the Northern Iowa Panthers from 1990 to 1993, he was not selected in the 1994 NFL draft. He attended the Green Bay Packers training camp but was released before the season. During this time, Warner worked at a Hy-Vee grocery store in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He earned $5.50 an hour stocking shelves. To balance work and training, he worked the night shift from 9:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. This allowed him to practice football during the daylight hours.

Before finding success in the NFL, Warner played in the Arena Football League (AFL). He signed with the Iowa Barnstormers in 1995. He earned First-team All-Arena honors in both 1996 and 1997. These years helped him develop the skills needed for the larger NFL field. In 1998, he signed with the St. Louis Rams. He initially served as a third-string quarterback. He also played for the Amsterdam Admirals in NFL Europe during February 1998. There, he led the league in passing yards and touchdowns.

Warner's breakout moment occurred during the 1999 NFL season. He began the year as a backup behind Trent Green. However, Green suffered a torn ACL during a preseason game. Coach Dick Vermeil named Warner the starter. Warner led an offense nicknamed "The Greatest Show on Turf." This offense was known for its high scoring. In his first season as a starter, Warner threw for 4,353 yards and 41 touchdowns. He had a completion rate of 65.1%.

That 1999 season resulted in a championship for the St. Louis Rams. They won Super Bowl XXXIV against the Tennessee Titans with a score of 23–16. Warner threw for 414 passing yards during the game. This was a Super Bowl record at the time. He also completed 45 passes without an interception. Because of this performance, he earned both the NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP awards. He was the first quarterback to win a Super Bowl in his first season as a primary starter.

Warner continued to achieve greatness in the early 2000s. He won his second NFL MVP award in 2001. That year, he led the Rams to a 14–2 record. The team reached Super Bowl XXXVI but lost to the New England Patriots with a score of 20–17. After a period of declining performance and injuries, Warner revitalized his career with the Arizona Cardinals. In 2008, he led the Cardinals to their first Super Bowl appearance in franchise history. This occurred during Super Bowl XLIII.
