Some are actors, and one is a film composer. Kunle studied economics at the University of Lagos first. Later, he went to the New York Film Academy. There, he earned a diploma in digital filmmaking in 2005.

Kunle started his career acting in a 1999 drama called *Saworoide*. He wanted to be a director instead. He worked at a bank for a few years. Then, he left banking to focus on movies. His first film as a director was *Irapada* in 2006. This movie won an award for Best Film in an African Language. It was one of the first movies of the New Nigerian Cinema.

Many of his movies have become very popular. *The Figurine* won five awards at the Africa Movie Academy Awards. Another film, *October 1*, was a huge success in 2014. It won 16 major African movie awards. His fantasy film, *Aníkúlápó*, became a top hit on Netflix in 2022. It was the most-watched non-English Netflix original film for eleven days. His series *Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre* reached 13 million viewed hours.

Kunle works with Netflix to share Nigerian stories with the world. He also wants to help the local film industry grow. In 2025, he put some of his older films on YouTube for free.
