sports Maturity 7-9 Next article →

Krisztina Egerszegi is a famous swimmer from Hungary. She is a legend in the water. She won five gold medals in individual races at the Olympics. This was a huge record for women.

Krisztina was very young when she started. At age 14, she won her first gold medal. People call her "Egérke," which means "Little Mouse." This name comes from her last name. It also fits because she was small and young.

She was a master of the backstroke. This is a way of swimming on your back. She held a world record for the 200 m backstroke for almost 17 years. That is a very long time! She also won the same race in three different Olympics. Only three other people have ever done this.

In her home country, she is a hero. Some people even called her "Queen Kristina." She won many awards for her skill. In 2013, she received the Order of Saint Stephen. This is a very high honor from Hungary. She shows us that hard work leads to great things.
