Later, many people moved there to live. Many were refugees fleeing a war in China.

The city became very dense. This means many people lived in a small space. By the late 1980s, 35,000 people lived there. They lived in about 300 buildings.

The buildings grew very tall. They reached 13 or 14 stories high. This was to stay below the path of planes.

Because of its history, the city had few rules. This made it a place for crime and drugs. Gangs often controlled parts of the city. However, most people lived peaceful lives. They ran small shops and factories.

In 1987, leaders decided to tear it down. They moved the people out. Demolition ended in April 1994. Now, a green park sits on the land.
