He studied philosophy at the University of Tokyo. Later, he taught at Kyoto University. He was the founder of the Kyoto School. This was a new group of thinkers.

Nishida wanted to join different ideas. He mixed Eastern ideas with Western ones. He hoped to bring the East and West closer. He wrote many books. One famous book is called An Inquiry into the Good. In his work, he wrote about truth and religion. He also wrote about pure experience. This is a deep way to feel the world.

He had a special idea called the logic of basho. Basho means "place." He used this to explain how things work. He thought about how opposites can exist together.

Nishida lived through a hard time in history. Some people criticized his views during the war. After the war, other people had different views. He died at age 75. His remains were buried in three different places. One grave is at Tōkei-ji Temple in Kamakura.
