The Kaveri is a major river in Southern India.

It is the third largest river in the region. The river flows through Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry. It starts in the Brahmagiri Hills. From there, it flows east toward the Bay of Bengal.

The river is very important for many people. It helps farmers grow crops like rice and sugarcane. Many dams sit on the river. These dams make power for homes. The river is also very sacred. Many people worship it as the goddess Kaveri. Some call it "the golden one" because of the silt it leaves behind.

Many animals live in the river basin. You might see tigers, elephants, or leopards in the forests. Many birds, like the painted stork, live near the water.

Scientists also study the land around the river. Some think a large object hit the Earth there a long time ago. This might have made a special shape in the ground. The river stays flowing all year because of the monsoon rains.
