This school is very important for science. A group of fifty professors belongs to the Nobel Assembly. They pick the winners for the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. This prize honors people who make big discoveries about how bodies work.

About 6,000 students study here. They learn about health and how to help sick people. Many students do research in English. The school also works with the Karolinska University Hospital. This hospital helps students learn by seeing real patients.

In the past, the school faced some hard times. A surgeon named Paolo Macchiarini was accused of scientific misconduct. This means he did not tell the truth about his work. He said his surgeries worked, but many patients died. The school later ended his contract after more studies were done.
