He worked as a philosopher and a teacher. He also shared his ideas about how society should work. Popper is most famous for his work on how science works. He wanted to find the best way to tell the difference between science and other ideas. His work helped many people understand how we gain new knowledge. He was a very busy man who never stopped thinking and writing.

Popper had a special idea about science called falsifiability.

He did not believe we can ever truly prove a scientific theory is correct. Instead, he said we should try to prove it wrong. This is done through careful tests and experiments. If a test shows an idea is wrong, then that idea must be changed or dropped. This way of thinking is called critical rationalism. It helps science move forward by constantly checking our ideas.

Popper was born in Vienna in 1902.

His father, Simon, was a lawyer who loved books. His father had a library with about 12,000 to 14,000 volumes. This made Popper's home feel very bookish. When he was young, Popper studied many subjects like math and physics. He even worked as a cabinetmaker for a short time. In 1928, he earned a doctorate in psychology. He later wrote a famous book called The Logic of Scientific Discovery in 1934.

Popper lived in several different countries during his life. He moved from Austria to New Zealand in 1937. While in New Zealand, he wrote about the "open society." Later, he moved to the United Kingdom after the Second World War.

He became a professor at the London School of Economics. He was very respected and won many awards. Queen Elizabeth II even knighted him in 1965. He was a member of many famous groups, like the Royal Society.

Popper believed in a free and open society. He defended liberal democracy and fair rules for everyone. He was strongly against groups that wanted total control over people. He thought that being able to criticize ideas made a society flourish. Popper married Josefine Anna Henninger in 1930. They chose not to have children because of the wars happening at that time. He died in 1994 at the age of 92.
