Later, he began a movie called Love and God. This was his first film made entirely in color. It was supposed to star Guru Dutt and Nimmi. But Guru Dutt died during the work. Asif then hired Sanjeev Kumar to help finish it.

Life for Asif was often complicated. He was married four times during his life. His first wife was Nigar Sultana. She was the mother of six of his children. His fourth wife was Akhtar Asif. She was the younger sister of actor Dilip Kumar. Asif died on 9 March 1971 at age 48 or 49. He died while still filming Love and God. Akhtar Asif helped release the film in 1986.
