He wrote over forty plays in his life. Some were based on old Japanese folktales. Other plays looked at modern life and social issues. His work was not just about fantasy. He wanted his plays to make people think. They often dealt with hard topics like guilt and judgment.

One of his well-known plays is Twilight Crane. It is based on a folk story. In the tale, a woman turns out to be a crane. Kinoshita also wrote a play called Between God and Man. This play had two parts. It looked at war crimes and how people judge one another. It asked if a whole nation can be blamed for war.

Kinoshita was also a great translator. He worked hard to bring Shakespeare to Japan. He studied how to translate English plays into Japanese. He wanted the words to have great energy. He believed actors should speak with power on stage. He even traveled to England to see Shakespeare's plays. Kinoshita died in 2006. His many works are still studied today.
