Junayd of Baghdad was a famous holy man. He lived a long time ago. He was born in the 800s. His family came from a place called Nihawand. This is in modern Iran.

As a boy, Junayd was an orphan. His uncle, Sirri Saqti, raised him. Junayd was a very bright student. When he was seven, he went on a special journey called a Hajj. At that time, many wise men talked about being thankful. Junayd gave a very good answer about it. The wise men all agreed with him.

Junayd spent much of his life in prayer. He lived in Baghdad. He also sold glasses to make a living. He wanted to be very humble. He taught that prayer should not make a person feel proud. He helped start a way of thinking called "sober" Sufism. This means his ideas were very logical.
