J. M. Synge was a very important Irish writer.

He was a playwright, a poet, and a collector of folk stories. People call him a key figure of the Irish Literary Revival. This was a time when Irish culture was being celebrated. He is known as one of the most famous dramatists of his era. Many of his friends thought he was the most productive writer in Ireland. His work helps us see the real lives of people from the past.

Synge used a special way to write his plays. He spent time traveling to different places to see how people lived. He visited the Aran Islands for five summers to collect stories. He also listened to the way people spoke in real life. He used Hiberno-English, which is a way of speaking English in Ireland. This helped his plays feel very real to the audience. He even used real objects from the islands to help set his stages.
