The Jingkang Incident was a major event in Chinese history. It happened in 1127 during the Jin-Song wars. This event changed how China was ruled for a long time. It began when the Jin dynasty attacked the Song dynasty. The Jin leaders led a large group of troops. They moved toward the Song capital city named Bianjing.

To understand the war, we must look at an earlier deal. In 1120, the Jin and Song made a military alliance. They worked together to defeat the Liao dynasty. The Jin won and took most of the northern lands. Later, the Song wanted a specific area called the Sixteen Prefectures. The Jin agreed to sell this land to the Song. They asked for 300,000 bolts of silk and 200,000 ounces of silver.

Trouble started growing between the two groups after the Liao fell. In 1123, a Jin general named Zhang Jue joined the Song. This caused great tension between the two dynasties. The Jin sent diplomats to find him and attacked three cities. A Song general named Wang Anzhong made a mistake during this time. He killed a man who looked like Zhang Jue to satisfy the Jin. This mistake led to more fighting and more war.

The Jin army attacked the Song land in two main waves. First, they besieged Bianjing in early 1126. The Song leaders tried to pay a ransom to stop them. The Jin took the city of Taiyuan as a gift. For a short time, things seemed calm again. However, the Jin attacked a second time in late 1126. This second army was much larger and more organized. It included 150,000 strong forces sent by Emperor Taizong of Jin.

On January 9, 1127, the city of Bianjing finally fell. The Jin captured Emperor Qinzong and his father, Emperor Huizong. They also took many members of the imperial family. The Jin troops took many items from the palace. They took books, silk, and even musical instruments. They also took many people like teachers, doctors, and artists. This event ended the Northern Song dynasty. Some family members, like Zhao Gou, escaped to southern China. They started the Southern Song dynasty in a new capital called Lin'an.
