Throughout her career, she has mastered many different genres, including science fiction, horror, and intense psychological dramas. Beyond her acting, she has served as a global face for major fashion and cosmetic brands. In 2005, she expanded her influence by becoming an Amnesty International Ambassador for Human Rights Education. This role allows her to use her platform to promote awareness of human rights around the world.

Connelly's journey into the public eye began with modeling. When she was ten years old, a friend of her father suggested she try modeling. She was added to the roster of the Ford Modeling Agency and began appearing in print advertisements and television commercials. In 1986, she even recorded two pop songs for the Japanese market, titled "Monologue of Love" and "Message of Love." Although she was successful in modeling, she did not originally plan to become an actress. Her transition to acting began when she was eleven years old with a role in the crime film Once Upon a Time in America.

Her early acting career involved a variety of challenging roles. In the 1985 film Phenomena, she played a girl who could communicate with insects. During the production of that film, she was even bitten on the finger by a chimpanzee. She gained widespread recognition for her role as Sarah Williams in the 1986 fantasy film Labyrinth. While the film was not a huge success at the box office, it eventually became a cult classic. As she grew up, Connelly navigated the difficult transition from a child actress to an adult performer in films like The Hot Spot and The Rocketeer.

Connelly's educational background provided a strong foundation for her craft. After graduating from high school in 1988, she attended Yale University to study English literature. She described herself as a very dedicated student who spent most of her time in the law school library. She eventually transferred to Stanford University to study drama. There, she trained under instructors such as Roy London, Howard Fine, and Harold Guskin. With the encouragement of her parents, she eventually left college to return to the film industry full-time.

One of the most significant milestones in her career occurred in 2001. Connelly won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the biographical film A Beautiful Mind. In this movie, directed by Ron Howard, she portrayed Alicia Nash. This achievement cemented her status as a highly respected dramatic actress.
