Foxworthy's professional journey began with a transition from technology to comedy. He attended the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. His recording career reached massive commercial success in the 1990s. In 1993, he released the album "You Might Be a Redneck If...". This release triggered a widespread cultural fad. That album earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Spoken Comedy Album. He also received a Grammy nomination in 1999 for "Totally Committed."

Television provided another major platform for Foxworthy's persona. In 1995, he starred in his own sitcom, "The Jeff Foxworthy Show." The series aired on ABC and later on NBC. Foxworthy later noted that networks struggled to market his Southern humor. He also became a well-known game show host. He hosted "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?" on Fox from 2007 to 2015. He also hosted "The American Bible Challenge" on GSN from 2012 to 2014.
