People love his music because it feels like a big adventure. He treats sounds like a painter uses colors on a canvas. His goal is to make music that describes feelings without using words.

Making his music is a very interesting way of working. In his early days, he used a small studio in his kitchen.

He used tools called synthesizers to make electronic sounds. He also used tape machines to loop sounds together. Later, he used a tool called the Fairlight CMI. This tool let him use digital technology to play sounds. He even used human voices from many different languages. He would record them and then edit them into his songs.

Jarre grew up in the city of Lyon. His mother, Francette, was a member of the French Resistance. His father, Maurice, was also a composer.

As a young boy, Jarre watched street performers from a high window. This helped him learn about how to perform for people. He also studied the piano and learned about music theory. He was influenced by jazz musicians and the artist Pierre Soulages. These different arts helped him decide how to make his own music.

His career has many amazing numbers and records. In 1976, he released his famous album called Oxygène.

He even held a world record in Moscow in 1997. That concert had about 3.5 million people watching him. By 2004, he had sold about 80 million albums and singles.

Jarre's work connects music to many other things. He uses light and technology to turn cities into stages.

In Houston, he used 2,000 projectors to shine images on skyscrapers. This turned the buildings into a giant backdrop for his show. He also uses a special instrument called a laser harp.

This allows him to play music by touching beams of light. His music has even been played on the radio in China. He shows how machines and art can work together to amaze everyone.
