Jayavarman II was a Khmer prince. He was a very powerful king. He helped start the Khmer Empire. This empire ruled much of Southeast Asia for a long time.

Before he was king, Jayavarman II lived in Java. This is an island in Indonesia. He was a follower of leaders there. Later, he declared his own independence. He wanted to rule his own land. He moved through many areas to gain power. He built many new cities. One city was called Hariharalaya.

In the year 802, he held a big ceremony. He did this on Mount Mahendraparvata. At this event, he became a devaraja. This means he was a god-king. He also married a queen named Jayendrabhā. This marriage helped unite the people under one rule.

We do not have writings made by him. However, later kings wrote about him. They called him a great warrior. They said he was the most powerful king of his time. He died in the year 850. He left a big legacy for his people.
