Jatin–Lalit is a renowned Indian music director duo. The pair consists of two brothers, Jatin Pandit and Lalit Pandit. They are famous for composing music for Hindi cinema, often called Bollywood. Their work became very influential during the 1990s and the early 2000s. They are best known for creating melodious compositions that define the sound of romantic films. Their professional name appears on many music albums, CDs, and DVDs.

Music was a central part of their upbringing. The brothers come from a musical family in Pili Mandori village, Haryana. Their father, Pandit Pratap Narayan, provided their primary musical education. They also studied piano and guitar from Pyarelal Ramprasad Sharma. Pyarelal was one half of the famous Laxmikant–Pyarelal duo. Their uncle was the classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj. This deep family connection to music helped shape their professional skills.

The formation of the duo happened by accident. In the early 1980s, Jatin worked with his elder brother, Mandheer. This pair worked with legendary singers like Kishore Kumar and Mohd Rafi. However, the Jatin-Mandheer combination did not achieve major hits. Lalit, the youngest brother, wanted to make his own mark in the industry. The brothers decided to form a new combination. This resulted in the creation of the Jatin–Lalit duo. They began their career in 1991 with the film Yaara Dildara.

Jatin–Lalit achieved massive commercial success through many iconic film soundtracks. Their score for Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is a cult classic. It is the fifth highest-selling Bollywood soundtrack of all time. They also composed the music for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. This album sold 8.5 million copies. Other successful films include Mohabbatein and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. These soundtracks are remembered for their lasting popularity.

The duo’s career is marked by significant recognition and records. They received 12 nominations for the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director. This includes nominations for films like Khiladi, Yes Boss, and Sarfarosh. Interestingly, they hold the record for the most nominations without ever winning a Filmfare Award. Throughout their career, they composed a total of 473 songs for 72 films. They were also pioneers in having film stars sing their own songs. For example, they composed "Aati Kya Khandala" for actor Aamir Khan.

Collaboration with talented vocalists was essential to their sound. They had a very long partnership with singer Alka Yagnik. They composed 136 songs for her. This makes them one of the most sought-after singer-composer duos in history. They also worked extensively with male singers. Kumar Sanu and Udit Narayan each sang over 100 songs for the duo. Other notable collaborators included Kavita Krishnamurthy and Sonu Nigam. Their ability to work with diverse voices helped their music reach many people.

In 2006, the brothers announced they were parting ways. They cited personal problems as the reason for their separation. Since then, they have pursued solo careers in music composition. Lalit composed the popular song "Munni Badnaam Hui" for the film Dabangg. He won a Filmfare Award for this work in 2011. Jatin has worked on various film scores and melody-based projects. Despite their split, the brothers reunited for a concert in Mumbai in February 2020. This event was well received by many leading Bollywood singers and fans.
