He wrote music called ragtime. Many people call him one of the "Big Three" ragtime writers. This is because his music was very good.

Scott grew up in Missouri. As a young man, he worked in a music shop. He was a song plugger. This meant he played the piano to show people new songs. People liked his music so much that a shop printed his songs. One was called "A Summer Breeze - March and Two Step."

In 1905, Scott went to find Scott Joplin. Joplin was a famous music star. Joplin helped Scott find a publisher. Soon, Scott wrote "Frog Legs Rag." This song was a huge hit. It was the second best-selling song in the shop's list.

Later, Scott moved to Kansas City. He taught music and played the organ for silent movies. People called him "Little Professor." He was always deep in thought. In his later years, he led an eight-piece band. He also wrote many other songs like "Climax Rag" and "Grace and Beauty." He loved to make music until the end of his life.
