Creating a character like Bond involves many interesting steps. Writer Ian Fleming began writing the first book in 1952. He worked at his Goldeneye estate in Jamaica.

Fleming used real life to build his spy. He met many secret agents during the Second World War. He even used his own hobbies for Bond. For example, they both like playing golf. They also both enjoy eating scrambled eggs. Fleming wanted Bond to be a simple, neutral figure. This helped the exotic stories stand out.

Ian Fleming started this whole journey in 1953. He published the first novel, Casino Royale, that year.

Fleming wrote twelve novels and two short-story collections. He died in 1964, but the stories did not stop. Eight other authors have written authorized Bond books since then. These writers include names like John Gardner and Anthony Horowitz. One recent book, On His Majesty's Secret Service, came out in May 2023. This shows how long the character has lived.

Many different actors have brought Bond to life in films.

The first actor was Sean Connery in the 1962 film Dr. No. In the main Eon Productions series, there have been twenty-five films. Daniel Craig was the sixth actor to play the part in that series. He starred in the 2021 film No Time to Die. The movies are famous for many things. They have great music and famous theme songs. Some of these songs even won Academy Awards.

Bond stories feel real because of the specific details used.

Most films feature Bond's fast cars and his guns. He also uses special tools called gadgets. These gadgets come from a group called Q Branch. You might also see the famous "Bond girls." These are the women Bond meets during his missions. The character's name actually came from a bird expert. Fleming liked the name because it sounded plain and strong. This helped make the legendary spy feel real to readers.
