The Jacobites were people who wanted the Stuart family to rule again.

James II (1685)

They believed in the divine right of kings. This means they thought God chose the kings to rule.

This idea started with James VI and I. He ruled England, Scotland, and Ireland. He believed kings should rule without a Parliament. This idea caused many fights in the three lands.

In 1688, a big change happened. King James II had to leave his throne. The Parliament gave the crown to Mary II and William III. This event was called the Glorious Revolution.

Jacobites did not think this was fair. They fought to bring the Stuarts back. They had many revolts in Scotland and Ireland. Some of these fights happened in 1715 and 1745.

France sometimes sent help to the Jacobites.

The last big fight was the 1745 Rising. The Jacobites lost this battle in 1746. After that, the movement was no longer a big force in politics.
