In this movie, he worked with the famous Charlie Chaplin. Coogan was so popular that many people bought items with his name on them. Fans bought things like dolls, whistles, and even peanut butter. He was one of the very first child stars in Hollywood history.

As a child actor, Jackie earned a massive amount of money. He earned between $3,000,000 and $4,000,000 during his early years. However, his mother and stepfather spent almost all of it. They used the money for expensive cars and jewelry. When Jackie turned 21, he discovered his fortune was mostly gone. He had to take them to court to try to get it back. This legal fight was very difficult for him. He even had to ask Charlie Chaplin for help with money.

This struggle changed how the law works for children. Because of Jackie, California passed the California Child Actor's Bill in 1939. People often call this the Coogan Act. The law says that employers must put 15% of a child's earnings into a special trust. This is often called a Coogan account. The law also sets rules for a child's school and work hours. These rules help make sure child performers have time to rest and learn. It protects their hard work for when they grow up.

Jackie Coogan had a very long and busy career. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He was a trained glider pilot in the Army Air Forces. He even flew missions in India and Burma. After the war, he returned to acting in movies and on the radio. He appeared in many different shows and films throughout his life. He was a very hard worker who never stopped performing. He even worked in many different types of comedy.

Later in life, Jackie found a new kind of fame on television.
