Ivan Sutherland is a famous computer scientist. He helped invent many things we use today. In 1962, he made a program called Sketchpad. This was a new way to use computers. Before this, computers were hard to use. Sketchpad let people draw shapes on a screen. You could move, rotate, or resize these shapes. It even let you zoom in on a picture. This idea led to the screens we use now.

Sutherland also helped create virtual reality. In 1968, he made a special headset. We call this a head-mounted display. It showed new images to the person wearing it. The images changed when the person moved their head. He called this system The Sword of Damocles.

He taught many students at the University of Utah. Some of his students helped start big companies. One student helped start Pixar. Sutherland has won many big awards. He won the Turing Award in 1988. He also won the Kyoto Prize in 2012. He is a true pioneer in the world of computers.
