Ingrid Daubechies is a famous math expert. She was born in Belgium. As a young girl, she loved numbers. She would double them in her head to fall asleep. This showed she understood how numbers can grow fast.

She is best known for her work with wavelets. A wavelet is a special kind of math tool. These tools help computers shrink digital pictures. This is called image compression. Because of her work, it is easy to share photos on phones.

Ingrid also uses math to study old art. She uses math to find cracks in very old paintings. This helps experts fix them. She even worked on the Ghent Altarpiece. This is a very large work of art from the 1400s.

She has won many big awards. She was the first woman to win the Wolf Prize in math. She was also the first woman to lead the International Mathematical Union. Ingrid is a professor at Duke University. She helps other women study math, too.
