He held this high office for a long time. He was the president from 1926 until 1939. This makes him the longest serving president in the history of Poland. His life was filled with both science and big political changes.

Mościcki was a talented chemist who understood how things work. He studied at the Riga Polytechnicum after finishing school in Warsaw. Later, he worked at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. There, he found a way to make nitric acid for factories. This was a special way to make it cheaply for industrial use. He even received a patent for this important discovery. He later taught at the Lwów Polytechnic and the Warsaw Polytechnic.

His path to the presidency began with a major event. In 1926, a man named Józef Piłsudski led a coup d'état. Piłsudski had been an associate of Mościcki in the Polish Socialist Party. After the coup, the National Assembly elected Mościcki as president. He was recommended by Piłsudski, who did not want the job himself. Mościcki served under Piłsudski's leadership for many years. He stayed in power even after Piłsudski passed away in 1935.

Politics in Poland were often very complicated during his time. After 1935, different groups fought for control of the government. Mościcki made a deal with General Edward Rydz-Śmigły to share power. This agreement helped Rydz-Śmigły become the main leader of the country. Mościcki was seen as a moderate figure in the government. This government was often called the "colonels' government" because of the military officers.

He remained president until a huge war changed everything.

In September 1939, Germany invaded Poland and started World War II. This was a very difficult time for the country. Mościcki had to leave Poland and went to Romania. He wanted to move to Switzerland, but Germany opposed it. The United States government helped him by talking to Romania. Eventually, he moved to Switzerland and worked in a chemical laboratory. He even gave money to help Polish soldiers and people in camps.
