He lived during the Islamic Golden Age. He was a poet and a leader. He also held the high job of vizier. A vizier is a top helper to a ruler. He held this job three different times.

Ibn Muqla was most famous for his art. He was a master of calligraphy. This is the art of beautiful handwriting. He used math to make his letters perfect. He used shapes and sizes to guide his pen.

He created many new ways to write. He made the Thuluth style. He also made Naskh. Naskh is a smooth, flowing style of writing. It was easier to read than older styles. Because of this, people used it for holy books. People today still use Naskh when they print books.

His skill was very great. Some people thought his talent was like a gift from God. He even helped start a system called proportioned script. This system uses dots and circles to size letters. We only know about his work from stories written by others.
