It was made in 1977. The team wanted it to sound like the future. To do this, they used a Moog synthesizer. A synthesizer is a machine that makes electronic sounds.

Making the song was a big job. The Moog went out of tune very fast. The team had to record it in short bursts. They also used a drum kit for the kick drum. This was the only part not played by a machine. The song uses a special bass sound. It plays in both ears to make a flickering effect.

The song was a huge hit. It reached number one in many places like Australia and the UK. Many famous singers liked it. David Bowie said it sounded like the future. This song helped start new kinds of dance music. It helped lead to techno and house music. In 2011, the Library of Congress added it to a special list. They said it is very important to our history.
