It lived about 126 million years ago. Most fossils were found on the Isle of Wight.

This dinosaur was a herbivore, which means it ate plants. It had a pointed head with a sharp beak. This beak worked much like a modern parrot beak.

Hypsilophodon was a bipedal animal. This means it walked on two legs. It was small and very agile. Scientists once thought it lived in trees. They also thought it had armor. Now, research shows these ideas were wrong. It was not an armored animal. It also did not live in trees.

Many fossils have been found in a layer of rock. This layer is called the Hypsilophodon Bed. It is one meter thick. This bed stretches for 1,200 meters along the coast. Most fossils come from this specific place. Scientists have found about twenty different animals. These fossils help us see how the dinosaur was built.
