He is widely regarded as one of the greatest wrestlers in history. Hogan achieved massive success by winning many championships worldwide. Most notably, he was a six-time champion in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), which is now known as the WWE. He also had a highly successful career in World Championship Wrestling (WCW). His massive physique and showmanship made him a global icon.

His wrestling style and persona changed throughout his career. In the 1980s, he played an all-American hero. This heroic persona helped spark a massive professional wrestling boom. He was famous for his blond Fu Manchu moustache and his use of bandanas. One of his most famous moves was the running leg drop.

In Japan, he wrestled for New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). There, he used a more technical style. He often used a move called the Axe Bomber, which is a crooked arm lariat. Later, he reinvented himself as a villain named Hollywood Hogan. As the leader of the New World Order (nWo), he helped drive the "Monday Night War" in the late 1990s.

Before he was a superstar, Terry Gene Bollea had many different interests. He was born in Augusta, Georgia, on August 11, 1953.

As a child, he was a pitcher in Little League Baseball. He also spent ten years as a musician. He played the fretless bass guitar in several rock bands in Florida. He even formed a popular band called Ruckus in 1976. His journey into wrestling began in 1977. He trained with Championship Wrestling from Florida under Hiro Matsuda. During his first training session, Matsuda actually broke Hogan's leg. Hogan spent ten weeks in rehab before returning to training.

His professional career saw many historic milestones and long championship reigns. Hogan made his professional debut on August 10, 1977, against Brian Blair. He later joined the WWF in 1983 and became a massive star. He headlined eight of the first nine WrestleMania events. His first reign as WWF Champion lasted for 1,474 days. This was the third-longest reign in the title's history. He also became the first wrestler to win back-to-back Royal Rumbles in 1990 and 1991.

Hogan's career also included significant success in international wrestling. In 1983, he won the inaugural International Wrestling Grand Prix (IWGP) tournament. He defeated Antonio Inoki by knockout to become the first holder of that championship.

He also competed in the American Wrestling Association (AWA) and the Continental Wrestling Association (CWA). In Memphis, a suggestion led to his famous nickname, "The Hulk." This happened after a talk show appearance where he appeared much larger than actor Lou Ferrigno. He also wrestled for the Alabama-based Gulf Coast Championship Wrestling (GCCW), where he had early matches against André the Giant.

Beyond the wrestling ring, Hogan became a recognizable face in mainstream media. He acted in films such as Rocky III, No Holds Barred, and Suburban Commando.

He also starred in television shows like Thunder in Paradise and Hogan Knows Best. In 1995, his band, the Wrestling Boot Band, released a record called Hulk Rules. This record reached number 12 on the Billboard Top Kid Audio chart. His influence helped connect professional wrestling to broader pop culture and entertainment industries.

However, Hogan's public image faced significant challenges and controversies. In 1994, he admitted to using anabolic steroids dating back to 1976. He also admitted to discouraging wrestlers from unionizing. In 2012, a legal battle occurred after the company Gawker published a sex tape. During this time, recordings surfaced of Hogan using racial slurs. Hogan sued Gawker, and the company was eventually found liable and declared bankruptcy.
