It is in northeastern Canada. The bay is part of the Arctic Ocean. It sits near Quebec, Ontario, and Manitoba.

Many rivers flow into the bay. This adds fresh water to the sea. Because of this, the water is not as salty as the ocean. This lower salt level helps the water freeze faster.

Much of the bay stays frozen from December to June.

The weather is very cold. Some parts have a polar climate. This means it is one of the few cold places south of the Arctic Circle.

Many animals live here. A large group of beluga whales lives in the western bay. Polar bears also live near the shores. Some bears use the land in Wapusk National Park to have their cubs.

In the past, explorers like Henry Hudson visited this place. He sailed his ship, the Discovery, in 1610. The bay is named after him. It is the second largest bay in the world.
