Hubertus Strughold was a German doctor. He studied how the body works during flight. He was a leader in aviation medicine. This is the study of how flying affects people.

During World War II, Strughold worked in Germany. He led a research group for the air force. During this time, some doctors performed bad experiments on people in a camp. These people were prisoners. It is not clear if Strughold knew about these harms. Many people later studied his role in these events.

After the war, Strughold moved to the United States. He was part of a group called Operation Paperclip. He worked for the US Air Force and NASA. He helped design the suits that astronauts wear. He also helped design life support systems. These systems help people breathe in space.

Strughold is often called the "Father of Space Medicine." He used new ideas to study space travel. He even made "Mars jars." These are containers that act like the air on Mars. He helped us learn how to fly high and far.
