One very important group is called Homo rhodesiensis. This name was first used by Arthur Smith Woodward in 1921. He used it to describe a famous skull found in a mine.

This skull is often called the Kabwe skull or Rhodesian Man. It helps us understand the link between older humans and us. Many scientists now think these fossils belong to a group called Homo heidelbergensis. This group lived a very long time ago in Africa.

These fossils show us how the human body was changing. The Kabwe skull was found in a lead mine in Zambia.

It belonged to a person who lived between 324,000 and 274,000 years ago. Another famous skull is the Bodo cranium from Ethiopia.

This skull is much older, at about 600,000 years old. It has a large brain size of about 1250 cc. This is close to the brain size of modern humans. These fossils show a mix of old and new features. They have thick bones like older species. Yet, they also have brain shapes more like ours.

Finding these fossils was a big job for many people. In 1921, two miners found the Kabwe skull in Northern Rhodesia.

They found it in the Mutwe Wa Nsofu Area. Later, researchers found the Bodo cranium in the Awash River valley.

A team led by Jon Kalb found it in 1976. Some people found the lower face first. Two weeks later, others found the top part of the face. They found the pieces near dry branches of the river. These finds helped scientists map out our long history.

There are many important facts about these ancient people. The Bodo site also had stone tools called Acheulean hand axes.

These tools were used to cut meat from animals. Researchers even found cut marks on the Bodo skull. This might show early ways people treated their dead. In Tanzania, another skull was found near Lake Ndutu.

This skull is between 320,000 and 600,000 years old. It also shows features that look like modern humans. Every new find adds a new piece to the puzzle.

Learning about these fossils is like following a long path.

We can see how one group of people slowly turned into another. The fossils act like a bridge between the past and today. They show us how brain size grew larger over time. This growth was a big part of how humans became who we are. Even though scientists sometimes disagree on the names, the bones tell a story. They show us that our history is full of amazing changes. We are still learning more every single day.
